City/Administrative Region in Yismin
Delmarre is a peninsular port city in the Eisen Hills. The largest seaport in the region and one of the largest on the continent, Delmarre is a popular spot for anyone looking to get into Yismin. As the seat of power for Jarl Elanora Vacanti it also contains the southern Eisen Hills within it's domain, including the Jorvik-Cote du Loup Project which is an attempt to revitalize the sacked city of Jorvik. The city proper is located to the West of old Jorvik, South of Kierkens, and Southwest of Tonborg.
Delmarre was one of the few cities to survive the Fires of Ishole thanks to the Dragon Wall that cuts off the peninsula off entirely. This has allowed many of it's historic institutions to remain intact, including the rulership of the Vacantis. The Vacantis have ruled over the Eisen hills region for hundreds of years. Jarl Vacanti's claim to the throne of Delmarre and refusal to recognize her sister's ascension as Queen Alliyah of Tonborg has created a divide in the Eisen Hills. The heightened tensions have led to what some have criticized as ineffective responses to the displacement of the Miraborg and the sacking of Jorvik during the year 425 AK.
Displacement of the Miraborg:
In early 425 AK the Miraborg clan who lived in the hills between Jorvik and Delmarre were attacked by a group of brigands led by a rogue knight named Nolan the Red with the aid of a wizard named Ferrix the Black. A large portion of the Miraborg were killed in the fighting, with the rest either being taken prisoner or fleeing North to the area around Kierkens. Eventually a group led by a displaced member named Girmend Miraborg and a random squire named Marie Silkensword, with support from Ash of Ash's Emporium and the Wild Dog Gang, put in motion a plan to kick out the brigands. Jarl Vacanti was informed of the coming attack but her army arrived a day too late to the fighting, which had gone successfully for the Miraborg and had even caught the renegade noble Lord Koldir in the fighting, revealing his plot to use the bandits alongside his own forces to take over the city. This was viewed as a humiliation for Delmarre's army, and this led into the next problem for the leadership.
Sacking of Jorvik:
The army's decision to return back to Delmarre instead of pursuing the remainder of Koldir's forces allowed them to regroup under Yvrae and sack the city of Jorvik before marching off into the great forest. The army was in no position to mobilize and Elanora had to weigh the option of sending her army and potentially reigniting tensions with Tonborg or hold off and wait for an opportunity. This inaction led to further distrust between the city and the Miraborg population, who would go on to leave the area for Prycia.
Cote du Loup The squire Marie Silkensword had been sworn in as Ash's knight, and together they worked on acquiring some land nearby to what remains of Jorvik and permission to use some of the materials scavenged from the city to build a small settlement called Chateu d'Silkensword. This project has also expanded into revitalizing what remains of the old city along with help from the Kingdom of Shon. This new region combining the entirety of the harbor has been reffered to by Marie as Cote du Loup. Despite the internation investment it is still governed solely by the Jarl.
Delmarre sits on a peninsula on the Southeasten coast of Yismin. On the city side of the Dragon Wall it is mostly fields and farms until you reach the city. On the outside of the wall it's fields before hitting the forest, which lies between the wall and the rolling Eisen hills. It's the center for a good chunk of the roads in the region. A wagon from Jorvik following the roads would have to go by the city in order to get to Kirkens or Tonborg despite there being faster routes as the crow flies due to the hills and some political factors. This has allowed Delmarre to remain dominant over the trade in the region
Being the main port of Southern Yismin, Delmarre has a very diverse economy with business in raw materials, production, hospitality, and trade. It has been one of the main ports for Ash's Emporium, who trades goods in the city while also handling the export of Mantle Mantis silk, among other unique goods, to foreign markets. Its port can handle over a dozen ships of all kinds. Road networks connect much of the region through Delmarre, allowing easy access for trade caravans. Much of the area outside the city is dedicated to farming, and most farm goods from Jorvik would have also been traded through the port of Delmarre.
The current Jarl is Jarl Elanora Vacanti, who comes from the Vacanti family who have ruled as the highest authority in the region for roughly 600 years undisputed. The current internal dispute is between Elanora and her sister Alliyah as the former refuses to recognize the latter's ascension to the throne of High Queen.
